PR (Progesterone Receptor) |
Purpose |
Detection and quantification of progesterone receptor in breast cancer carcinomas. |
Services |
AQUA staining multiplexed with cytokeratin |
Introduction |
The progesterone receptor (PR) is an intracellular steroid receptor that specifically binds progesterone. The absence of PR in breast cancer predicts early recurrence and poor survival of patients. The presence of PR (together with ER) is an indicator for targeted endocrine therapy (like tamoxifen). |
Specificity |
Reactions are found with both free and hormone-bound PR. |
Staining Interpretation |
The PR staining pattern is nuclear, with scoring possible (a positive staining is defined as more than 10% of cells with stained nuclei of any intensity). |
